It seems like more often than ever, reports of failed celebrity marriages are surfacing, and this has us wondering if many celebrities are making a mockery of marriage by using a wedding as a publicity stunt. The latest celebrity to divorce is singer Sinead O'Connor.Earlier this month TyingTheKnott.com reported that Ireland native singer, Sinead O'Connor, traveled to a prominent wedding venue in Las Vegas, known for their drive-thru wedding ceremonies. She was there with her boyfriend of only a couple months, Barry Herridge, who is a therapist in Ireland, currently working with at-risk teens who have substance abuse issues. In our earlier report, we expressed our concerns for the legitimacy and longevity for the marriage of Sinead O'Connor and Barry Herridge. The couple met in late October after Sinead placed a sexually explicit personal ad saying how desperate she was to have intimate encounters again, and she went into adult-eyes-only detail to describe her qualifications for the partner she was seeking. On October 21st, 2011 Sinead O'Connor announced that her "manhunt" is over, and that she had found a "successful applicant", who was none other than Barry Herridge. The relationship remained low-key until early December when Sinead O'Connor announced that the couple was getting married. She claimed that the couple would be keeping the details of their wedding day a secret, but yet she personally arranged for photographers and reporters to be present at the Las Vegas wedding venue. Then on December 8th, just a few weeks ago, Sinead O'Connor and Barry Herridge got married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. Sinead said that it was always a dream of hers to get married in a pink Cadillac, and she made that dream come true, but was the marriage really meant to be? According to our opinion, as expressed earlier this month in our Article Here, we hardly think so.So why are Sinead O'Connor and Barry Herridge getting divorced? Was it the one of the common reasons for divorce, such as money troubles, infidelity or irreconcilable differences? Not quite - In fact, the reason for their divorce is hardly because of any troubles in their relationship. According to Sinead O'Connor, the celebrity couple are getting divorced because of the pressure put onto Barry Herridge by his family, whose negative opinions of Sinead O'Connor led them to not support him and their marriage because of the poor decisions that Sinead has made in the past, and because they're not fond of her self-proclaimed 'wild lifestyle'.Sinead O'Connor said that the marriage was practically doomed from the beginning. She explains, "Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behavior of certain people in my husband's life." Sinead blames herself as well, saying, "And also by a bit of a wild ride I took us on, looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for my wedding night as I don't drink."This wedding night confession continues, as does Sinead O'Connor's finger pointing. She calls out the people in her soon-to-be ex-husband's life, who may not enjoy the singer's lifestyle. "I saw his life leave him because of how people close to him reacted, and I can't take anyone's life. A woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone - Set them free."The quote mentioned by Sinead O'Connor normally refers to a test of love, and by setting someone free they're said to come back, but more than likely Barry Herridge will walk away from the marriage and he will not even think to look back at what his family believes is his biggest mistake."He is a wonderful man." Sinead O'Connor said, "I love him very much. I'm sorry that I'm not a regular woman. I truly believe, though its painful to admit, we made a mistake rushing to get married, for altruistic reasons, and weren't aware or prepared for the consequences on my husband's life and the lives of those close to him. He's been terribly unhappy, and I've therefore ended the marriage. I think he's too nice to do so himself, and too nice a person to trap in an unwanted marriage."Sinead O'Connor, who has four children from her previous relationships, was married three times before marrying Barry Herridge. He previous marriages include music producer John Reynolds in 1989 and journalist Nicholas Sommerlad in 2001. This past April, after only eight months, Sinead O'Connor divorced longtime friend and collaborator Steve Cooney.Whether it's the in-laws opinions of a spouse with a bad reputation, or any other reason that so many celebrities have had short-lived marriages, it's raising the question and has TyingTheKnott.com wondering whether or not a celebrity plans a wedding day simply to get publicity. Hopefully not, but you might be surprised to hear that it just might actually be true.Earlier this month, Google reported that the royal wedding and also the wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries were the most searched topics in 2011. With such a large amount of interest surrounding high profile engagements, weddings, and even divorces, such as the highly publicized divorce of Mel Gibson, could this be serving as motivation for celebrities to announce they're getting married so they too can be in the public's eyes within such a largely captive niche?
